Ria Stein

As an editor I have been working on the topics of architecture, landscape architecture and the history of building since 1992, with a focus on English language publications, often in cooperation with US-based authors.

My services include editorial guidance for publication projects as well as contract negotiations with the author or the publisher. Furthermore, I am responsible for project management, copy-editing and (if necessary) the assignment of translation and graphic design.

For the Birkhäuser Verlag in Basel, I work as a freelance editor responsible for part of the program planning, the acquisition as well as the conceptual and editorial supervision of five titles per year, some of them in several language editions.

Together with my colleague Andreas Müller, I initiated, conceived and managed the Birkhäuser series "Design Manuals" and developed the typological database "Building Types online" (bdt.degruyter.com). This electronic publication is now used in teaching at over 100 schools of architecture worldwide.

My clients are publishers, architects, architecture professors and self-publishing authors.
