Following my high school degree at Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Spandau, Berlin, in 1977, I enrolled in History and German Languages and Literatures, at Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin, on the track for a graduate secondary school teacher. I was a teaching assistant in Mediaeval German Literature and Language, with Prof. Dr. Volker Mertens, in my second and third year.<\/p>\n
